On my new series:
“Car(di)nals” is a series of six repeatedly rephotographed, digitally degraded stills taken from pornographic films. For this series, I sought to visualize how the transmutation of meaning occurs through digital media; in other words, I approached this project as a game of “telephone” with photographs instead of verbal messages. The resulting images resembled infrared maps of coastlines, which was the impetus for titling the series “Car(di)nals”, a play on words referencing the Cardinal directions and the original carnally charged film stills.
I will be unveiling these images as three sets of diptychs in the “Adjustments” show at Aurora Coffee in L5P this Friday. Preview images soon to follow.
