Untitled #122
My favorite Cindy Sherman photograph.
Seeing this last week at the retrospective just stopped me in my tracks. The color. The scale. The stare. Everything about this photograph is massive.
Tim Hetherington
I was able to see the show that just came down at Yossi Milo last weekend, and it was beautiful. Very sad, but incredible to see so much of Hetherington’s work in one place. I loved the Sleeping Soldiers series, but this photo stole the show for me.

My bro is really good at portraying my mood via photos. (Taken with instagram)

There are times at night when I sit here and watch a cold stream of images of acquaintances sitting at pools eating hot dogs and pies, and I wonder if I am wasting my youth — if I have wasted my youth — working. While you are laughing and drinking in some smokey bar, I am working. While you are chuckling with each other and shriveling in the warm summer water, I am typing a letter; I am pressing a shutter; I am thinking; I am painting. I am alone, and I am working. Even when shaking a hand or smiling at a face, I am alone. It all feels so meaningless sometimes.
And sometimes I feel resentful.
Sometimes.
